  • Summary of Position

Athena Academy provides a Montessori and Multi-lingual Education to preschool-age children. We are looking for qualified, experienced and professional teachers who are committed to the early childhood field. The teacher will understand and promote the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies within and outside the immediate school community.

  • Requirements

1. Must be Teacher qualified through EEC (The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care).

2. Degree in Early Childhood Education and/or Montessori Certification (preferred)

3. Successful Background Record Check (BRC), including fingerprinting.

4. Certification in CPR and First Aid.

5. Fulfills all training requirements set forth by EEC, including required training and professional development hours

Abide by the policies and procedures set by The Department of Early Education and Care.

6. Must be willing to work in a team environment, be flexible, open to new ideas, and willing to contribute and share ideas.

Kindness and respect are to be exercised at all times.

7. Regular physical requirements such as lifting children, bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, running, walking, kneeling, carrying, etc.

8. A love and understanding of children.

  • Responsibilities

The Teacher is responsible for providing a classroom/instructional program that supports the individual needs of the children in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the school. In addition, the Teacher will be expected to:

  1. Provide nurturing and stimulating environments to facilitate children’s growth and guidance in their sensitive period, through exploration and participation.

2. Maintain clean and safe classroom and outdoor environments for children.

3. Coordinate with other teachers to develop lesson plans for children to develop their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills.

4. Treat all children unconditionally and with the same importance level.

5. Coordinate regular communication with parents regarding their children’s progress.

6. Supervise and manage children inside and outside the classroom.

7. Monitor and track children's progress on regular basis.

8. Must have the ability to adapt to the needs of the students and the community.

9. Maintain and foster positive and constructive interaction with students and parents.

10. Attend and participate, as needed, in all-school events such as Parents Nights, Open House, Admissions Visits, etc.

11. Create an environment that fosters Montessori while adhering to EEC regulations.

12. Observe and document children’s activities in order to prepare an environment that meets the sensitive period of development for each child.

13.Maintain accurate attendance records of students.

14. Maintain sanitary standards for self and children.

15.Maintain constant supervision of students to ensure proper participation and safety.

16. Use appropriate positive discipline techniques with students.

  • Curriculum

1. Design, prepare and maintain a peaceful, calm, and inviting learning environment.

2. Create a space that is organized, stimulating, and aesthetically pleasing.

3. Implement the Montessori Philosophy in ways that are consistent with the school’s mission, diversity and principles.

4. Coordinate with other teachers to change the classroom materials and environment each month.

5. Keep a record of curriculum and activities.

  • Communication • Communicate our school’s philosophy to parents.

1. Recognize and respect appropriate parent/student confidentiality.

2. Interact with parents in a positive, professional, and friendly manner.

3. Provide opportunities to appreciate student’s families as a part of the school’s program using information about families’ culture and language in the experiences offered to students.

4. Initiate, develop and maintain communication with parents and others as part of relationship building.

5. Communicate with colleagues professionally, directly, and respectfully.

6. Prepare and conduct scheduled conferences with parents or as needed.

7. Participate in mandatory monthly staff meetings

  • Skills

1. Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.

4. Ability to prioritize, organize, and plan work under own initiative.

5. Strong tact and diplomacy; interacts with and works cooperatively with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Related Duties

1. Willing to work in any additional capacity as requested by the Director and as needed in both short and long-term situations.

2. Responsible for the safety and daily operation of the school such as opening and closing of school, arrival, dismissal, playground coverage, etc.

3. Use appropriate positive discipline techniques with children.

4. Maintain constant supervision of children in care and all activities to ensure proper participation and safety

5. Assist with facility maintenance of the school by taking measures necessary to present a well organized, clean, and safe overall environment (interior and exterior) Professional Growth

6. Complete EEC required training, professional development hours, CPR and First Aid training annually or as required.

7. Set professional goals annually with the Director of School and Curriculum Director and pursue the opportunities to accomplish the goals set forth.

8. Meet annually, with the Director of School and Curriculum Director, to review the completed professional goals and accomplishments.

9. Attend professional development activities such as workshops, staff development days, and conferences.

  • The Teacher is directly accountable to:

1. Lead Teacher.

2. Supervised by Lead Teacher.

3. And responsible for the supervision of assistants and interns.
